PBM’s Michael Laverty thinks that a wet race at Silverstone’s MotoGP round on Sunday is the only way to bag a decent points haul as the track’s long straights will hurt the comparatively under-powered British-built bike.
But Laverty also believes that intimate circuit knowledge could be a real boost in the early practice session as Silverstone is the place he knows best of the MotoGP calendar and will not have to spend time re-learning its nuances.
“The only thing we can really hope for is a little bit of rain if we want to make an impact. But if we get a dry weekend the long straights at Silverstone will hurt us. We will work hard at it and see if we can scoop a few points this weekend,” said Laverty, speaking to bikesportnews.com.
“The home track advantage might give is a little bit of extra but you have to be realistic as it will be very hard to do more than 16th or 17th, but the aim is to bag a point or two. If a few of the factory bikes drop off, then that will be a bonus.
“Silverstone, and I hope I will get a lot more support from the crowds, as this is essentially my home round. Experience is key for me. I know the track really well, so it is not something I need to learn, and I am confident on that circuit too.
“It is important for me to get in the points. I want to beat the other CRT bikes, but points are what I need. We don’t have any new updates for the bike, but we will try our best and see what we need to do during free practice.”
