Estrella’s Alex Rins will start the Moto3 race at Silverstone tomorrow from pole position, after he blasted the lap record by nearly a second, after a circuit best - 2’13.112 during qualifying this afternoon. The Spanish rider once again pipped his team-mate, and fellow namesake, Alex Marquez to the post, as well as Go and Fun’s Niccolo Antonelli.
The Italian rider was on course for the provisional pole position but Rins got the better of him, by one tenth of a second. It was a dominant performance by Rins, and he proved to be uncatchable at the British track.
Britain’s Danny Kent did initially set a time that would have put him on the provisional front row, but that was not to last the 40 minute session, and he will start the race on Sunday rounding off the fourth row, after a 2’14.500 rotation.
Fellow compatriot, Scottish rider, John McPhee, start two rows behind, in 17th on the grid, after a 2’14.726. Wildcard rider, Joe Riving, on his Redline backed KTM machine will start from 32nd, at his home track.
Championship leader Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Jack Miller will have to battle it out from the third row, and the Australian will start next to Calvo Team’s Isaac Vinales, on the track.
