Estrella’s Alex Rins out-paced both his fellow team-mate, Alex Marquez and Calvo Team’s Isaac Vinales to top the final Moto3 free practice session at Silverstone this morning. A 2’14.273 on his final lap was enough to secure top billing at the dry track.
His fellow compatriot, Vinales onboard his KTM machine was heading the sheets, until the chequered flag appeared and Rins went one tenth quicker. Initially it was Marquez who set the pace, but he was unable to improve on a 2’14.443 rotation and had to settle for the third fastest accolade.
The British contingent of Danny Kent, John McPhee, and wild-card rider Joe Irving had a steady session. Kent was as high as third with less that 17 minutes remaining, but soon slipped back down the standings, and eventually outside the top ten – with his best lap of a 2’15.044.
Scottish lad, McPhee, was one sixth off the pace of fellow Brit, Kent, but did make it inside the top twenty times, with a 2’15.684 lap, to place him 18th overall at the flag. Irving, who is better known for his time competing in the Motul British Motostar class in the MCE British Superbike series finished the morning 34th on the timesheets.
Moto3 championship leader, Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Jack Miller ended the session just outside the top five times and had to settle for sixth, just behind Ambrogio Racing’s Brad Binder.
