MotoGP Silverstone: Rossi finds ‘crucial’ corner speed

Movistar Yamaha’s Valentino Rossi was forced to completely change his setup today at Silverstone as data which proved useful at the Brno MotoGP round didn’t transfer to the bumpy Northamptonshire circuit.

Rossi moved the bike’s balance in order to cope with bumps which, he says, are in crucial parts of high-speed turns and he wasn’t able to carry anything like the required corner-entry speed but a move away from the Czech Republic setup meant he bagged a second-row slot for tomorrow’s race.

“Yesterday we were worried but for today we modify the bike and fortunately from this morning our pace and rhythm and feeling with the bike is not so bad. I stay always in the top five and I enjoy to ride this morning and also this afternoon and under this point of view is much better because yesterday we were slow,” said Rossi, speaking at the track.

“In Brno, we modify something for the balance to improve the tyre life and it worked well at the end of the race. Yesterday we try to continue like this but for this track is not good, especially on the bumps. This track have a lot of bumps but also they are in the crucial points for the corner speed in the high-speed corner but we have to make another step as tomorrow the pace will be faster.

“Personally, I am not fully happy about my qualifying, I am not fully satisfied because I think I can do better. I wasn’t able to to use to the maximum the grip of the second tyre. I am in sixth, which is not bad, the second row is quite good but I think I can go two or three tenths better.

“Now we have to work for tomorrow. I still have some problem in the entry in some places on some bumps. I think that we are already quite fast. Second row is the minimum target for the qualify. Last year, I did a very good start and was third after the first corner.”
