Repsol Honda's Casey Stoner was more confident of a race win in the dry at yesterday's Silverstone MotoGP round even though he crossed the line more than 15 seconds in front of team-mate Andrea Dovizioso with no-one else even in sight.
As has become customary, Stoner was fastest right through qualifying in wet and dry but he said that he feared if it rained, the pack would be a lot closer to him.
"I was a lot more confident of a win in the dry than in the wet. I think in the wet everyone was able to be a little bit closer to me. In the dry, especially at the end of the race, I think I was going to be a little bit stronger," said the Aussie.
"The soft tyres were dropping off a long way and we were able to run the hard ones very easily and do some really good times. One of my best times was only a second off my qualifying time with more than race distance front and rear.
"I was happy going into a dry race but a wet track, well, I'm just glad it's over. I don't want too many wet races there, it's too nerve wracking."
