MotoGP Silverstone: Bumps are worse than last year – Dovizioso

Andrea Dovizioso has bemoaned the bumps around the newly resurfaced Silverstone circuit after the opening day of MotoGP free practice.

The British circuit was resurfaced over the winter, but despite the new tarmac many riders were unhappy with the bumps in the braking zones and the Italian was one of the least happy.

“The bumps are worse than last year and the track needs to be studied all over again,” said Dovizioso.

“The bumps have always been there, but you can’t see them, so you have to ride by sensation. The track is very wide and long, but in any case, we have good speed. I think that Silverstone is one of the nicest tracks on the calendar, but finding these conditions is a pity because you can’t enjoy it.”

The second free practice session had a weather scare and as ever the British weather remains unpredictable for the remainder of the weekend. Despite the prospect of rain looming for Sunday, Dovi insists that he is only thinking about tomorrow.

“In England you never know if it will rain or not,” he said.

“It doesn’t make sense to think about Sunday right now. The only thing that counts is focusing on Saturday, where the conditions should be better than today.”

When asked whom he predicts as his biggest rivals for the weekend, Dovizioso said that the factory Yamaha of Maverick Vinales is a name to watch.

“Besides myself, I’d say Vinales and Marc. Maybe Marquez is a bit at the limit, but he has the speed. I would also add Crutchlow, plus it will be interesting to see how Jorge works on Saturday,” he said.
