No works team in MotoGP, says BMW boss Hauser

BMW Motorsport boss Bertie Hauser has completely ruled out a works team entering MotoGP in the future as the series does not help them showcase their S1000RR Superbike or any other products.

The company, who supply the series’ course cars, have no plans to think about entering a factory team in the premier class and are more than happy with their customer activities in the World Superbike and British Superbike paddock, as well as in IDM.

Hauser also intimated that MotoGP was too expensive and that the confusion over the spec-ECU, and who were and weren’t factory teams were also instrumental in their decision not to take part.

“We have been watching these activities for the past few months and to be honest it was a huge discussion between the companies and Dorna, and they tried to find a proper solution but actually those already inside the competition tried to find a match with their ideas, ideas and requests and the needs of Dorna,” he said, speaking to bikesportnews.com at the Assen World Superbike roundl

“For BMW it is impossible for BMW to jump into this big water and to start to swim successfully. For us, actually, it is no way. Why should we do it? We have a product that can compete worldwide in most of the championships and what we want to create is a family under the roof of BMW Motorsport. MotoGP is exploding the cost. You show the rider and the brand, but not the product.

“For sure, MotoGP has a higher value of appearance with TV and so on, but if you summarise our activities in the championships which are not boring, look at British Superbikes, it’s better for our needs.”
