For the first time since America, Pedro Acosta is back on a MotoGP rostrum once again.
Pedro Acosta has been a revelation in the 2024 MotoGP World Championship. The rookie came into the class with a Moto2 and Moto3 Championship in his back pocket, and high expectations surrounding him.
The start of 2024 saw Acosta living up to the hype as he claimed two podiums in the opening three races. However, the young 20-year-old hit a wall midseason as rookie mistakes began expectedly creeping in. But Acosta is back on a MotoGP podium for the first time since the American Grand Prix.
After finishing 13th last time out at the Austrian Grand Prix, a third place in Aragon is a great turnaround for the Spaniard. But Acosta was very open about how difficult the weekend was when speaking to TNT Sports after the race.
"For sure one of the most difficult weekends of my life in MotoGP," Acosta told TNT Sports. "It was not easy to manage all of these changing situations, it also was not easy with a wet warm-up and a dry race. Also, not being able to race with the soft, which was an idea. It was tough to understand which way to go.
"I don't know why we were losing grip from the beginning, which was not the easiest situation. Anyway, we survive and I always say inside the box 'We are not here this season to win anything, but we want to be competitive.' This had been missing the last couple of races, but I am super happy about his podium. Also, it was a top five I would have been happy."
A third place in both the Sprint Race and the Grand Prix has moved Acosta up to fifth place in the Championship. The Spaniard is now the highest KTM rider in the standings as he is three points ahead of Brad Binder.
