After being cleared from a potential tyre pressure penalty Pedro Acosta leaves Indonesia with a second-place finish.
Pedro Acosta finished runner-up in the Indonesian Grand Prix as he was unable to stick with Jorge Martin. The Spanish rookie has been a revelation in the class in the 2024 season as he secured his fourth Grand Prix podium of the season.
Acosta leaves Indonesia on a high after standing on the podium, but he knows there is still work do. The rookie has only stood on a Sprint Race podium three times this season, something he wants to change in the last five rounds.
After the race, Acosta said: "We know that our weakest point in the races is the start so I was trying to be more active and reactive. Because of this, I was trying to pass Bastianini quite early, I tried to pull with Martin as well. For the podium, we need to be happy because we have been fast all weekend, even on one lap which is another of our weakest points.
"We need to improve a little bit more in the Sprint Race because the potential that we saw yesterday is not what we saw today. We need to be a little bit faster in this as it is the only thing that is missing now that we have found good consistency."
Acosta also admitted that he had belief at one point that he could win the Indonesian Grand Prix. The #31 was closing in on Martin ahead of him but in the latter stages of the race, he was unsure om his tyre life.
"For sure it came to mind, it was super close," Acosta revealed. "Maybe next time we need to do more laps on the tyre in FP2 because at the end of the race I arrived with many question marks. I was not managing the race in the best way, but we need to be happy because we were really strong today."
