Ducati has provided Pedro Acosta an 'option' to ride for the Italian manufacturer in 2026.
Pedro Acosta could find himself on a Ducati in 2026, it has been shockingly reported in Spain.
Acosta can engineer a “change of scenery” next year if his KTM does not prove the competitiveness that is expected of it, AS report.
The “option” has “begun to be considered”, the newspaper claims. But “everything is far from being closed” and the deal might not happen, if KTM can prove their performance levels.
Where would Acosta end up?
It is reported that Valentino Rossi's Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team would be Acosta's destination.
The nine-time World Champions team has become the primary satellite team for Ducati this season after Pramac switched to Yamaha.
Rumours of Acosta's move to VR46 began in January when the Spaniard was at Rossi's Ranch for the 100km of Champions.
Currently VR46 have Fabio di Giannantonio and Franco Morbidelli contracted for the 2025 MotoGP season.
di Giannantonio rides a factory Ducati GP25, whereas Morbidelli has a year old GP24. As far as contracts go di Giannantonio is contracted to Ducati for the 2026 MotoGP season, but Morbidelli's contract with VR46 ends at the conclusion of the 2025 season.
Pedro Acosta wants to remain committed to KTM:
Acosta does want to remain with KTM for the 2026 season, depending on their performance level throughout 2025.
His manager Albert Valera told AS: "We hope that things go very well at KTM and we can stay for many years.
“It depends on KTM. Pedro is committed to the brand and his goal is to win world championships with KTM."
Acosta is signed to KTM on a multi-year contract, but he could break his deal with the Austrian manufacturer earlier than expected.
The rider market is expected to be quieter at the end of the 2025 season than it was at the end of 2024. The majority of riders are tied down for 2026, but Acosta could spark some serious negotiations if he does decide to leave KTM.
