Pedro Acosta completed a solid weekend at the Malaysian Grand Prix despite his tyre degradation worries.
It has been a positive weekend for Pedro Acosta and the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing squad, after topping Practice on Friday, and getting a Sprint Race podium on Saturday, he backed it up with a Grand Prix podium on Sunday.
The Spaniard was worried on Friday afternoon about the level of tyre wear he would experience at the Malaysian Grand Prix, but he was able to have a steady weekend and score solid points.
"Well, I tried my best," Acosta said to MotoGP.com after the Malaysian Grand Prix.
"It was a tough Warm-Up, we tried some things on the bike, and I did not like it. So, I said, 'Guys, we cannot be worse than this, let's try something different.'
"We tried things for this, and nothing worked. I don't know, I am happy, it was not an easy weekend for us, we had three crashes, but we improved, so I am quite happy for the team."
At the start of the Grand Prix, Acosta got off to a good start and passed Alex Marquez on the run to Turn One. However, he revealed he wanted to be first, but Francesco Bagnaia got away from the line better than him.
"My plan was to be in first, but Pecco [Bagnaia] was a rocket at the start," he stated.
"It is true that Alex [Marquez] had a bit more pace than me, and he was super aggressive in the first laps. I was quite scared of destroying the tyres at the beginning, so I think we managed it in the best way."
'I was just waiting and managing the tyres...'
In the early laps, Marquez was able to clear off at the front and left Acosta and Bagnaia fighting for second.
The Spaniard enjoyed his battle with the Italian, but was having a lot of moments, and was having to manage his tyres during the early stages of the race.
"It is always super fun to battle with Pecco, he is super clean," he explained.
"He is super tough to beat, but I was waiting for my moment, as it was not easy to pass him or to be close to him because I was having a lot of moments. I was just waiting and managing the tyre, but when I saw my opportunity, I went."
