Pirelli considering MotoGP control tyre bid

Italian tyre manufacturer Pirelli is considering making a bid to step in as MotoGP control tyre supplier when Bridgestone quit the sport at the end of next season.

The firm already has big commitments as it is the provides spec-tyres to Formula One, World Superbike and British Superbikes, and will face stiff competition from Michelin and Dunlop, who are known to be interested.

"We are currently discussing our next steps regarding the possibility to make an offer for MotoGP as already done by Michelin and Dunlop but at the moment nothing is already decided,” said Matteo Giusti, Pirelli’s Racing and Product Communication Manager speaking to bikesportnews.com

“We are making our evaluations even because we are already involved in Formula 1 as well as in WSBK as sole suppliers.”
