Donington Park bosses have revealed what they want the new facilities at the Leicestershire track to look like following the decision by planners to allow the circuit upgrades to go ahead.
And work has already begun on the infield section with managing director Simon Gillett donning hard hat and wellies (see pic below) to oversee that everything is running smoothly. Included in the plans, as well as the new track sections, are a pit and paddock complex, media centre, grandstands which will house upwards of 70,000 people and a whole host of suites.
The scheme was given full planning permission at a special meeting of Leicestershire District Council on Thursday night and now construction teams have around a year to complete the work in order for Donington to host the British F1 GP and MotoGP in 2010.
Events at the track this year remain unaffected however. A Donington Park spokesman said: "The tunnel will be completed by February 20, when the circuit will be back in use and then there is a busy programme of events highlighted by British MotoGP, World and British Superbikes with a calendar running between March and October. All of the works will be ongoing throughout, but as they are all on the infield, the circuit is unaffected."
