Britain’s Scott Redding moved to within a second of the fastest MotoGP riders on day one of testing last night in Qatar, putting his Estrella Galicia Marc VDS RC213V in tenth place and only 0.847s slower than Andrea Iannone.
But Redding says he won’t make any massive changes to setup in the second session today, other than a couple of tweaks, as he want to spend more time getting laps and building his confidence.
“I’m happy with today, mainly because we didn’t really change much on the bike at all, other then throwing tyres and fuel into it. I felt comfortable on the bike from the start today and that helped to build my confidence, which is the most important thing,” said Redding.
“I’m going faster, closing on the guys at the top of the timesheet, so we’re coming across things that we can improve with the bike. Even so, I still feel I’ve got a few tenths in my pocket, especially as we spent today on the harder tyre.
“We won’t make any big changes for tomorrow, other than to try a couple of setting changes so Chris and me can see how the bike reacts. Overall today has been a pretty solid start to the test.”
