Ducati’s MotoGP boss Gigi Dall’Igna is remaining cool, calm and collected about the GP15’s performance at the top of the Qatar MotoGP test times, saying it is only the beginning of the new bike’s development curve.
The enigmatic engineer, who only rolled out the brand new bike at Sepang II after test rider Michele Pirro gave it a cursory shakedown in a car park, isn’t getting over excited about heading the timesheets on both days so far, saying there is still a lot of work to do.
“The test is not so bad at the moment. Saturday was OK, yesterday with Dovi and also Iannone not so bad, but the work that we have to do is a lot and we need other track time to improve the bike because we are at the beginning with the GP15,” said Dall’Igna, speaking at Losail.
Ducati broke out some new aerodynamic winglets on Dovizioso’s GP15 yesterday but Dall’Igna said they are merely an experiment to gather data and is 99 per cent certain they will not be used in a race environment.
“For sure we try something different on the fairing but this is an experiment as we need to collect some data. It is 99 per cent we cannot use this system in the race but we will see. It is quite different than the system used in the past.”
