MarcVDS Moto2 team leader Scott Redding held off charges from the Spanish Pons teamsters Pol Espargaro and Esteve Rabat to set the fastest time on day two of testing at Jerez.
The Gloucestershire youngster was two-tenths outside the 2011 pole time of 1'42.7 with Espargaro a further tenth in arrears while Rabat is three tenths slower. Mika Kallio, on the second MarcVDS machine, was fifth quickest making it a Kalex clean sweep of the top five.
Tech3's Bradley Smith, who is still hurting from his massive Sepang shunt, is sixth and a tenth slower than the Finn, while Gino Rea is once again testing the Gresini Moriwaki - and wearing a team jacket in the paddock too - and finished just behind Smith. Reigning 125cc champion Nico Terol's Aspar Suter is 11th just ahead of team-mate Toni Elias.
