Monster Yamaha's Bradley Smith has yet to find out whether he will get the seamless shift gearbox run by factory MotoGP counterparts Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo but said he is not too worried about it.
The youngster, who becomes Britain's number one premier class rider with the defection to Ducati of Cal Crutchlow, is happy with the package he received at Valencia - including the works tanks and seat - and will use that at Sepang.
"I've had no official word on anything to do with the seamless shift gearbox. Obviously I'm hoping to get it but I'm really happy with the package that I've been given already. Like I said, it's a huge step up from last year so I'm just kind of playing it by ear and cruising along and I'm not too worried either way," said Smith, speaking to bikesportnews.com
"I'll be focusing on improving my race craft rather than working on individual fast laps. It's always important to be able to fit in one or two fast laps but race consistency is what I need to work on because that's where the leading four riders are a class above everyone else - they really do bang in lap times from the start of the race to the end that only vary by about 0.2 or 0.3 of a second.
"So that's what I have to work on, and also on the first four or five laps with a full tank of fuel because you can gain an awful lot of time in the opening laps. If I can put all that together, that'll be plenty to work on at the first test in Sepang."
