‘Team mistakes were making me look bad’ - Kent

Britain’s Danny Kent has hit back at accusation of unprofessionalism from his former team boss Stefan Kiefer, saying that one of the reasons he left the Moto2 team was because repeated mistakes were being made.

Kent parted company with the squad in Austin after only two races of the season under his belt and has landed a wildcard with his 2015 Moto3 championship-winning Red Bull KTM squad.

“There are quite a few different reasons. A lot of people thought it was a rushed decision but it came over quite a long period. I was listening to Stefan’s interview the other day and he said that I needed to be more professional, but I was the professional one by not telling the media all the problems inside the team,” Kent told BTSport’s Suzi Perry.

“It built up over a few months. These problems have continued from the end of 2015 where they keep re-occurring and make me as a rider look bad. People at home don’t see everything inside the paddock. You see my results, me down in P20 and blame the rider but they don’t know what’s happening in the box.

“Domi is showing the bike is capable of doing it and that was not my reason for leaving the team. Mistakes just kept happening. Last year in Brno, Aragon it made me look bad but it was down to tyre pressures, the team should be checking these things - the pressures should be 1.6 and you’re going out with 3.0. It’s not rideable and it makes me look bad.”

Kiefer said in a previous BTSport interview: “The truth is that with talent alone you are not able to exist in the Moto2 class. Danny has a lot of talent but he has to work more like a professional.”
