'There is nothing positive' - Fabio Quartararo's tyre struggles continued in the Indonesia MotoGP Sprint Race

Gold & Goose

Tyre problems continued to plague Fabio Quartararo on Saturday at the Indonesian Grand Prix as he crashed in the Sprint Race.

Fabio Quartararo's Indonesian Grand Prix went from bad to worse on Saturday after he crashed out of the Saturday afternoon Sprint Race.

Despite securing a Q2 spot on Friday afternoon and starting from the third row of the grid, Quartararo could not find any improvements or positives on Saturday.

After a terrible start, Quartararo found himself in last place, and after making his way back towards the top ten, he crashed his Monster Energy Yamaha, ending the day with no points.

"The start was pretty strange, I had a slip of the clutch, then a touch with [Enea] Bastianini, so I was completely last," Quartararo told the media after the Sprint Race.

"I tried to recover and make my pace, but all weekend I have felt super bad on the bike. It is quite strange, but let's try to make it work tomorrow at least. We will try to make a good pace.

"Nothing has been learnt, and there is nothing positive at the moment."

On Friday afternoon, Quartararo admitted that his tyres were 'reacting in an unpredictable way', which did not change on the second day of track action.

"For me, it is the same, I was not able to improve my feeling," he explained.

"With all tyres, front and rear, I am not feeling comfortable, and the bike is quite unpredictable with the tyres. I am trying to understand how to make it work, but it is quite complicated."

The 2021 MotoGP World Champion's tyre struggles have led him to an unwanted decision to use soft tyres for Sunday's Grand Prix, as he cannot get the temperature into the medium Michelin tyres.

"I will not go with the medium, for us it is impossible to warm up," he admitted.

"Tomorrow I will go with the soft, it is the choice that I have to make, to try something, and hopefully we can have a better race."
