'This victory is for my team' - Francesco Bagnaia praised his Ducati crew after his Sprint Race victory

Gold & Goose

Francesco Bagnaia bounced back from two pointless weekends to a Sprint Race victory at the Malaysian Grand Prix.

The flyaway races have been a puzzling time for the factory Ducati squad and Francesco Bagnaia, as his performances have been inconsistent.

Bagnaia started the flyaways with a dominant weekend at the Japanese Grand Prix, where he won the Sprint Race and Grand Prix. However, they were followed up by pointless weekends at the Indonesian and Australian Grands Prix.

But this weekend at the Malaysian Grand Prix, Bagnaia has been back on form as he claimed pole position on Saturday morning, and then backed it up with a Sprint Race victory in the afternoon.

"I am super happy, but this victory is deserved more by my team than me," Bagnaia told MotoGP.com after the Sprint Race.

"I was just riding the best way that I could, but my team are always doing an enormous job. They are working till late, and yesterday night they were here changing things to give me what I needed. We are doing an amazing job just trying to find a solution.

"It is clear that we still do not have a clear idea of what is happening, but this weekend we have tried different things on the setup, and it worked.

Luckily, already at Phillip Island on the Sunday, I was feeling better. This weekend I started better, and we were more focused on what I was having difficulties with. This is better, and we need to continue like this tomorrow."

'When I feel good on my bike, I can be competitive...'

After his highs at the Japanese Grand Prix, Bagnaia has been lost at the previous two race weekends at Mandalika and Phillip Island.

However, he is hopeful that with help from the Ducati Lenovo Team, they may have found a solution for the issues that they have been experiencing.

"It has been quite tough," he explained.

"But it is tougher for my team than it is for myself. Because I know that when I give my 100% and I feel good on my bike, I can be competitive. But we are a team, and we need to work together to find this balance on the bike, and this season has been very tough for that.

"Because more of the time, I have been struggling to find a solution and to be competitive. So, it was difficult, Japan was amazing, Indonesia was a disaster, Phillip Island was very tough for me.

"We understand that we need to take things day by day. Yesterday we worked well to try to improve for today, and we will do the same for tomorrow. I just hope we are sure that we are figuring out what the problem is, and maybe we will solve it for the next races."
