'This year I was on the correct bike' - Marc Marquez reacts to his first Grand Prix victory at the Red Bull Ring

Gold & Goose

After nine attempts, Marc Marquez has finally claimed his first Grand Prix victory at the Red Bull Ring.

After multiple years of finishing second best to the factory Ducati team at the Red Bull Ring, Marc Marquez finally claimed victory at the circuit.

The Spaniard dominated the Sprint Race on Saturday and backed it up with a consistent and controlled Grand Prix on Sunday.

In the early stages of the race, Marquez found himself in second place, behind Marco Bezzecchi and ahead of his teammate, Francesco Bagnaia.

As the race progressed, Bezzecchi and Marquez broke the field and extended their lead at the front. The Spaniard attempted to pass the Italian, but quickly found himself back in second place.

It was not until the latter laps when Marquez pushed to attack Bezzecchi again, and took the lead, which he was able to control.

Despite late pressure from a fast-charging Fermin Aldeguer, who had passed Bezzecchi for second, Marquez held onto his lead and claimed his first Grand Prix victory in Austria.

"I am super, super happy to finally take my first victory here in Austria," Marquez said after the Austrian Grand Prix.

"As I said on Thursday, this year I am here in the correct colours and on the correct bike. The bike was working super good, we found a good setup, especially with the used tyres.

"We saw with Marco Bezzecchi that in the first part of the race, he was super strong. But then I just waited. I tried in the first part of the race, but it was too risky. Then I waited, and I was able to attack him in the end.

"But a new outsider arrived, and it was Fermin Aldeguer this time, and he was riding super fast.

"I am happy, six victories in a row, but I will keep focused because next week we have another race. I enjoyed the race and I am super happy to be on the top of the podium for Pau Alsina."
