After finishing in fourth place in the Australian Sprint Race, Francesco Bagnaia was disappointed.
Francesco Bagnaia has struggled throughout the weekend at the Australian Grand Prix. On Friday the Italian ended the day in fifth place after struggling with his number one Ducati.
However, Bagnaia did make his way into Qualifying Two and managed to secure a fifth-place starting position. The two-time MotoGP World Champion and his factory Ducati team thought they had made improvements for the Sprint Race.
But Bagnaia could only manage a fourth-place finish, whilst his title rival went on to dominate the 13-lap race. The #1 was not happy with his Ducati machinery after the race stating 'what was good started to become worse'.
"Honestly, not really satisfied or happy," Bagnaia said after the Sprint Race. "It was difficult today, this morning I struggled in the dry conditions with the wind. Yesterday we improved my feeling on the bike a lot, but it was not working today. So, we tried different things for the race, we changed things with the setup, what was good started to become worse and what was bad stayed the same. We did not improve anything and in the end, it was worse, for tomorrow we have identified what to do.
"What we have found could work well, but we have to wait and try it in the Warm-Up. I am hoping we have dry conditions so we can test it well and then see what we think. I think Martin at this moment is much faster, today he was playing with us. But let's see tomorrow."
Before Sunday's Australian Grand Prix Bagnaia was asked what he wanted from his Ducati GP24 for Sunday compared to Saturday.
"To have a bike to help me close the lines and not feel the wind as much," Bagnaia stated. "Because in the fast corners, I could feel the impact of the wind and I was losing the front. So, it was difficult to close the lines, I tried to close the gap but as soon as I started to push I began to struggle more. I had to drop back and finish as high as possible."
