Who could race for Pramac Yamaha in 2025?

Gold and Goose

With Pramac Racing changing manufacturers to Yamaha in 2025 the Italian team are yet to announce their rider lineup for next season.

Since the announcement that Pramac would switch to Yamaha in 2025, their rider lineup is yet to be officially confirmed. There has been a mixture of experienced MotoGP riders and current Moto2 riders linked with the team.

But with no riders officially placed on the two factory specification Yamaha M1s for 2025 here are some of the riders that have been linked to the Italian team:

Miguel Oliveira has been linked with Pramac since the MotoGP summer break. It appears that Oliveira will leave Aprilia after spending two years with Trackhouse Racing. The Portuguese rider has been in MotoGP since the 2019 season when he got promoted by Red Bull KTM Factory Racing. The 29-year-old has five MotoGP race wins and two further podiums.

Oliveira is one of the more experienced riders linked with Pramac. After spending six seasons in MotoGP his experience at KTM and Aprilia would help Yamaha on their journey back to the top end of MotoGP. However, Oliveira has never been the most consistent rider in MotoGP as his best Championship finish was ninth place in 2020.

There have been rumours that Oliveira has officially signed with Pramac for the 2025 and 2026 seasons, but it is yet to be announced.

Jack Miller:

Jack Miller recently stated that he did not have any options for 2025. It appeared that 2024 would be Miller's final season in the MotoGP paddock. However, he has emerged as an option for the Pramac Yamaha squad.

Yamaha and Pramac need experienced riders to help push them back up the order. Miller has experience with the Ducati and KTM factory teams in the last four years. The Australian is supposedly being aided by Dorna in his efforts to stay on the MotoGP grid to keep more nationalities in the Championship.

If Miller does move to Pramac it would be the fourth manufacturer he has ridden for in his MotoGP career. He would also return to the team he raced for in the 2018, 2019 and 2020 seasons.

Sergio Garcia:

Sergio Garcia has been in the Moto2 class for the last two years with the Pons Wegow Los40 Team in 2023 and now the MT Helmets - MSi Team. Garcia is currently leading the Moto2 Championship, he has two wins and three further podiums to his name in 2024.

The Spanish rider has been a revelation in Moto2 this season but could miss out on an opportunity in MotoGP next year. The only MotoGP team the Spaniard has been linked to for next season is the Pramac Yamaha squad. However, if Oliveira and Miller get the nod over Garcia he could become the first Moto2 Champion to not go up to MotoGP the next year since Johann Zarco in 2015.

One reason Garcia is not expected to get the Pramac Yamaha ride is his inexperience. Garcia is 21 years old and has only been a front-runner in Moto2 for this season, so it could be too early to promote him to MotoGP.

Tony Arbolino:

If Pramac Yamaha is to select a rookie for 2025 many expect it to be Tony Arbolino. Midway through the 2023 season, there have been reports that Arbolino would get a MotoGP ride. However, after an inconsistent end to last season, Arbolino was overlooked.

The Italian rider has not had a good year in Moto2 since the switch to Pirelli tyres. But one big factor that links Arbolino to Yamaha is his relationship with Fabio Quartararo. The Frenchman and Italian are good friends and the 2021 MotoGP World Champion has always been an advocate of Arbolino getting a MotoGP seat.

If Quartararo has any influence over who Yamaha put on one of the Pramac bikes, he would most likely suggest his good friend. Arbolino has done more in Moto2 than Quartararo had done in his time in the intermediate class as the Italian has six wins and seven further podiums to his name. Proving that on his day he is capable of being a front runner in Moto2 despite his 2024 performances.
