Since Aragon has been resurfaced Yamaha is hoping the new asphalt will help with their grip issues.
Like many circuits, Aragon used to be a happy hunting ground for Yamaha. However, in recent years Yamaha has struggled around MotorLand Aragon. In 2022 at the last Aragon Grand Prix, the best Yamaha was Cal Crutchlow in 14th place.
Since the Austrian Grand Prix two weeks ago Yamaha has had a private test at Misano. With new parts to test throughout a race weekend and the new asphalt, Yamaha hopes that Aragon could be a positive weekend for them.
"We had the opportunity to try some new things at the private Misano test," began Fabio Quartararo. "At the test, we noticed that the new items give us a small improvement.
"This weekend we'll have another chance to try these items, but this time in a race-weekend setting. Aragon is usually not an easy circuit for me, but I'm curious to see if the new asphalt will help."
Monster Energy Yamaha Team Director, Massimo Meregalli, also shares the same hopes as Quartararo for this weekend.
"After a one-week break during which we kept busy, we now start a doubleheader: Aragon and Misano. The circuit of Aragon is a nice track with a nice layout, but in recent years it's been a tough one for us.
"The track has been completely resurfaced since we were last here. We hope that this new tarmac will provide us with good grip and that it will aid our performance.
"Moreover, this weekend we will bring new items that were tested and approved by the riders at our private Misano test last week. We will try to maximize what we get out of this GP: we want to get the best results possible as well as collect data."
