A best-ever WorldSBK season is among Alex Lowes’ ambition for the 2026 season, the British rider’s 13th in the championship.
Lowes first joined WorldSBK in 2014 as the then-reigning BSB Champion. His best finish in a championship so far has been third in 2019, although his 2024 season – in which he finished fourth in the riders’ standings – was arguably more impressive.
Now 35, Lowes thinks it’s possible for him to return to a top-three position in the standings by the end of the 2026 season, which will be the second for the Bimota KB998 in the championship.
“First win on the Bimota would be fantastic, top-three in the championship would be nice,” Lowes said, speaking to WorldSBK.com at the Bimota team launch about his targets for 2026.
“But in general my target is to have a good attitude, keep trying to have a good attitude; work hard on the bike; ride as best I can.
“If I can finish top-three in the world and make this year the best year of my career that’s what I’ll try and do. I’m excited to see if we can do it.”
Lowes comes into the 2026 WorldSBK season off the back of a 2025 campaign that saw him on the podium four times in his first year aboard the KB998. It’s also a season that proved to him that he’s riding as well as ever even 12 seasons into his world championship career.
“I think, for me, the first season was positive, especially the first part of the season,” he said.
“The first part was so-so: some mistakes from my side, and a difficult winter also last year with the weather; new bike, trying to learn many things.
“But I think the season overall was good, we finished really strong the second two thirds of the championship, and it gave us some good confidence on the bike.
“So, 2024 was a good year for me, 2025 also. I feel like I’m riding as good as I’ve ridden, some good experience, enjoying it as much as ever. So, it’s all good.”
