After rumours started circulating that Andrea Iannone has been hunting for a ride in WorldSBK for 2024 the former Grand Prix rider confirmed that he has been in conversation with WorldSBK teams about a ride for next season.
Andrea Iannone will be allowed to race once again in the 2024 season once his ban from 2019 runs out at the end of this season. It seems that Iannone will not be able to find a way back into the MotoGP paddock so the former Grand Prix winner is looking at WorldSBK as his next challenge.
The Italian rider had been spotted in Ducati garages throughout the WorldSBK races at both Misano and Imola. Rumours did eventually come out that Iannone is trying to secure a ride with a Ducati satellite team for next season.
At Imola WorldSBK.com managed to catch up with Iannone and received an update from 'The Maniac' about his future as a rider.
“I don't know if we're close or far from an agreement," said Iannone at Imola. "I just know that we'll soon know what will become of my future as a rider. I think we’ve spoken to all the teams who’ve shown interest, not just the ones you mention.”
The teams that Iannone has reportedly been talking to are Team GoEleven, Barni Racing and even Motoxracing Yamaha. However, it is now clear that no agreement has been made ahead of the 2024 season.
“I missed the paddock a lot," continued Iannone. "Not just the bikes, but the passion of the people, the fans, I missed everything a lot. I think the level of WorldSBK today is the highest ever. Come back to win? I don't think it will be easy but this must be our goal. If I ever succeed, it will be magical.”
Iannone was then asked if he could battle with Alvaro Bautista for the WorldSBK title next season, Iannone responded by saying: “Alvaro is riding in an extraordinary way, it would be nice to be able to find him on the track again; to duel with him is a path that must be built step-by-step. He is already at the top, I have little time and a lot of work ahead of me.”
