BMW boss claims it is not easy switching from the 'hunter to the hunted'

After winning the 2024 title BMW has struggled during Round One of the 2025 WorldSBK season.

The opening round of the 2025 World Superbike Championship was a difficult weekend for BMW.

The German manufacturer won the Riders title in 2024 with Toprak Razgatlioglu, but it looks like they will struggle to retain the trophy this season.

BMW scored 22 points at Phillip Island whilst their rivals, Ducati, hold the top five places in the standings.

After the weekend had finished BMW's Director of Motorrad Motorsport, Sven Blusch said: "It was definitely a tough day today for us."

"Yesterday we showed potential, but today, was not an easy day for us. It is something where we have to focus now and then come back stronger together for Portimao."

Blusch believes that the reason for BMWs slow start to the season was due to their lack of testing time over winter.

"When we arrived it was clear that it would be not an easy weekend for us," he stated.

"We missed testing time with all the obstacles we had over winter, with Toprak [Razgatlioglu's] finger problem. He ended up missing a lot of testing time and we had a lot of rainy testing days as well. There is also the change of the concessions topic as well.

"For sure we arrived at Phillip Island without a lot of testing time and we are still investigating our setup. It is not easy for us."

Finally, Blusch stated: "This is part of the game, from being the hunter to being the hunted, it is clear that it will not be as easy as last year.

"We will take the challenge that was this weekend which we did not finish in the way that we wanted and we are now looking forward to Portimao."
