Donington Park WorldSBK FP2 Results | Toprak Razgatlioglu takes top spot as rain stops play

Toprak Razgatlioglu set the fastest lap of the afternoon Practice session today at Donington Park before the rain began to fall. However, throughout the 45 minute session only seven riders set lap times.

Friday has been a right off for most WorldSBK riders at Donington Park as the good old fashioned British weather interrupted the opening day of Practice. In the second session in the afternoon many riders opted to stay dry inside their garage rather than tip toe their way around the track.

One of the riders who braved the conditions at the start of the session was the 2021 WorldSBK Champion, Toprak Razgatlioglu. The Turkish rider embraced the best conditions of the session as he took top spot on the timing sheet and was not knocked off of his perch throughout the session. The lap time Razgatlioglu set in the second session of the day was also his fastest of the day

Axel Bassani followed Razgatlioglu around in the early stages of FP2. During his time at school behind the Yamaha Bassani was able to improve his time from the morning session as well. The Italian rider finished FP2 in second place only 0.142 seconds behind Razgatlioglu.

Andrea Locatelli was the first rider to brave the wetter later conditions as he left his pit box with just over ten minutes to go. The Italian rider could not match the earlier lap times set by Razgatlioglu and Bassani due to the track conditions. Locatelli ended the afternoon in third place, but 13.100 seconds slower than his teammate.

Hafizh Syahrin has been known to be a wet weather master in the past so it was no surprise to see him out on track. However, the Malaysian could not match Locatelli in the same conditions and was 1.681 seconds slower than the Yamaha rider.

Lorenzo Baldassarri was another Yamaha rider to take to the track in the wettest part of the session. The Italian rider finished fifth overall but was 15.995 seconds slower than Razgatlioglu and 2.895 seconds slower than Locatelli.

Eric Granado ventured out of his pit box as well and completed six laps in the wet and finished sixth in the session. The Brazilian was absent last time out at Misano so any track time will be good for him and his Honda.

The final rider to set a lap time in the FP2 session was Dominique Aegerter. The Swiss rider did eight laps around Donington Park and was 3.198 seconds slower than Locatelli.

On combined times Jonathan Rea still leads the way at the end of the first day with Razgatlioglu still in second and Philipp Oettl in third. But Bassani has crept his way up to fourth place on the combined times.
