The six-time World Superbike Champion, Jonathan Rea, has been taken to hospital with a suspected right thumb fracture.
In the opening World Superbike race at Magny-Cours Jonathan Rea crashed at the end of the first lap. The British rider was unable to continue the race in the treacherous wet conditions.
The six-time World Superbike Champion crashed at the final chicane on the kerbs just after Nicolo Bulega crashed just in front of him.
After the race, World Superbikes stated that Rea would be transported to Moulins Hospital with a suspected fracture to his right thumb and a deep wound. Rea has not been declared unfit and will be reviewed tomorrow morning after the warm-up session.

This potential injury could have come at a bad time for Rea with four more WorldSBK rounds taking place across the next six weeks.
Rea is in his first year with Yamaha after making the switch from Kawasaki. An injury is the last thing he needs as he sits 10th in the Championship with 86 points and only one podium finish to his name in 2024.
