BMW continue their winning streak as Michael van der Mark claims his first win of the 2024 season.
After a very wet Qualifying session, the World Superbike grid has seen a mixup in the starting order. Alex Lowes started the opening race from pole position after a dominant performance in Qualifying.
The opening race at Magny-Cours was a classic wet weather Superbike race, with a pit-stop in the middle. The master of the wet conditions was the Dutchman, Michael van der Mark. The #60 has won his first race since Portimao in 2021 when he won the Sprint Race in mixed conditions.
In second place, eight seconds behind van der Mark was Alvaro Bautista. After Qualifying down in 17th place the two-time Champion put together a Champions ride as he scored 20 points.
In third place was Danilo Petrucci. This is only the second time that Petrucci has raced on wet Pirelli tyres. However, the Italian is a natural wet-weather rider and he claimed a podium from his skill.
The only British rider to finish the race was Scott Redding. The BMW rider did crash during the race, but got back on and continued to finish in fourth.
In fifth place was Andrea Iannone. This result is a great showing from the Italian as he has never raced at Magny-Cours before, let alone in the wet.
Team HRC finished in sixth and seventh place. Iker Lecuona finished in sixth place with Xavi Vierge in seventh after being given a penalty.
The top Yamaha rider was Andrea Locatelli. The Italian rider finished in eighth place after he crashed out of second early on in the race.
Michael Ruben Rinaldi was over a minute behind van der Mark. However, he still finished in ninth place and scored good points for his finish.
Completing the top ten was the replacement rider Alessandro Delbianco on the GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK machine.
