'My goal is to fight for top five in the Championship' - Sam Lowes

Gold & Goose

Sam Lowes opens up on his difficulties throughout the 2024 season and his latest successes in the World Superbike Championship.

The 2025 World Superbike Championship is Sam Lowes' second year in the category after switching over to Superbikes from Moto2.

His first year in the category was filled with difficulties, but his second year has been filled with positives as he has claimed his first podium and pole position in the series.

"I think overall my 2025 campaign is going a lot better than last year," Lowes said in an interview with WorldSBK.com.

"It is going pretty good, we have been quite consistent in that top six battle every weekend. The Qualifying and the speed have improved quite a lot from last year.

"Obviously, in such a tight series, it helps to be starting the races from nearer the front."

Last season, Lowes' rookie year was interrupted by a shoulder injury that slowed his adaptation to a Superbike.

The British rider has since admitted that with it being his third shoulder injury in four years, it was close to being the end of his career.

"In 2024, with it being my first year I learnt so much about the category," he explained.

"So much about the format of the race weekend and a lot about riding a Superbike, and how to ride it and how not to ride it.

"My best moment was probably being competitive in Barcelona, in Catalunya, qualifying well and leading the race for some laps. My worst moment was the crash in Most and getting injured, because I was already struggling, and this really set me back.

"My injuries in 2021 and 2022 to both of my shoulders, and then last year at some points it was close to being the end of my career. So, it was definitely a low point."

Returning to a positive note, Lowes knows where his true speed is in the World Superbike Championship and believes that he could finish the 2025 season inside the top five in the standings.

"Now we are sitting sixth in the Championship," he continued.

"I have made a mistake myself at Portimao, I was in an incident with Alvaro [Bautista] at Assen. To still be sitting sixth, I feel like that is my place really, if you look at the season to start with, I have been quite fast.

"My goal is to fight for the top five in the World Championship, and aim to get some more podiums and try to win a race before the end of the year."
