Scott Redding has warned rivals that new BMW WorldSBK team-mate Toprak Razgatlioglu has already adapted to the M 1000 RR in such a way that it is leading the manufacturer in a new direction.

The Turkish rider’s surprise switch to the German manufacturer - which has only won a single race since 2012 - for 2024 WorldSBK campaign is one of the most keenly anticipated developments ahead of the new season.

The former Yamaha rider has so far completed a handful of tests on his new machinery, outings that have caught the attention of new BMW stablemate Redding, who reveals Razgatlioglu is already riding in a different way to him, Michael van der Mark and Garrett Gerloff.

It’s a style that Redding admits he is unlikely to replicate, but having spotted he is already adopting different techniques on the brakes especially, he feels Razgatlioglu is the rider to steer BMW in a positive direction.

"Toprak has something that distinguishes him from everyone else,” Redding told Speedweek. “Imitating him is very difficult. So far, I haven't found anyone that rides like him.

“The BMW is good on the brakes, but it doesn't like it when the rear wheel lifts off the ground when braking. That’s when the problem begins. Because the chances are then 50:50, for what happens when it comes down again.

“But maybe his talent on the brakes is even bigger than I think, and he somehow gets a grip on it. If that's the case, alright. Maybe he can lead us in a direction that helps us.

“He rode other motorcycles that required a different driving style, so he will bring a lot to us. Whether this works for him or not, we will definitely have this information. We need them."

Having made way for Razgatlioglu in the full factory Shaun Muir Racing-led ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK team, Redding will sidestep to the satellite Bonovo Racing BMW team for 2024.
