Francesco Bagnaia took victory at home for the second year in a row as he took a popular win at Mugello in the Italian Grand Prix.

After crashing out last time out in Le Mans Francesco Bagnaia returned to race winning ways as he took victory in the Sprint Race and the main Grand Prix event. After both wins Bagnaia extended his Championship lead to 21 points.

The reigning World Champion won the Italian Grand Prix by one second over Pramac Ducati rider, Jorge Martin. Bagnaia withstood the pressure from Martin, something he has struggled with in the past.

“This feels even better than last year’s victory because after yesterday the only way to have a better conclusion was to win my home GP." said Bagnaia after winning the Sprint Race and Grand Prix at Mugello.

"It has been a great weekend - pole position, sprint race win and today’s win so I’m very happy. I want to say thanks to all the fans here today, the crowd was very impressive.

"The pace was strong but the conditions were very tough for the hot temperature. I was trying not to give any chance to Martin to come closer, because he was with the soft tyre and I knew that his potential could be higher.

"He was always 0.4/0.5 so I tried to be calm and not get nervous, but then when I saw he was struggling a bit I just tried to push more to open the gap.

"My team did an incredible job, and my physio and my trainer helped me a lot in this period with the fracture, so a big thanks also to them.”

After picking up an injury at Le Mans and having a slow start to the weekend Bagnaia seemed to be on the back foot. However, the Italian claimed a popular win around Mugello and even pulled out a Valentino Rossi-esque celebration.
