'It will be a nice challenge to beat them' - Martin believes he has lost his advantage in Thailand

Gold and Goose

After ending Day One in second place Jorge Martin is ready to battle with Marquez and Bagnaia throughout the weekend.

Jorge Martin leaves the Chang International Circuit in second place after the opening day of Practice. In 2023 the Spanish rider dominated the Thai Grand Prix as he did the double by winning the Sprint Race and the Grand Prix.

However, this season Martin is expecting a closer fight with Marc Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia.

"It was a good day," Martin told MotoGP.com. "We did a great job, we worked hard on the used tyres which is important. I saw that Pecco (Bagnaia) and Marc (Marquez) were quite strong also. Last year I had something extra, but this year we are all so close. It will be a nice challenge tomorrow to beat them."

Despite starting his weekend off on the front foot Martin did have his fair share of issues on track. The Championship leader was struggling with movement from the rear of his Ducati GP24. The #89 put in plenty of work on Friday on used tyres ahead of the races but knows he still has work to do overnight.

"The bike was shaking quite a lot," Martin explained. "I had some movement from the rear. So, I was just struggling and it was really physical, I need to calm it down a bit for tomorrow. Overall, I feel good and we did a great job. I think I was the only rider to go on really used tyres, I tried medium and hard. Overall, the work was really good and we need to work a bit now on the details."

After the chequered flag was thrown Martin engaged in a stoppie competition with Jack Miller and Pedro Acosta. Martin was humble and admitted it is 'impossible' to beat Miller's stoppies, but explained how it is important to enjoy those moments after a session.

"It is impossible to beat Jack's (Miller) stoppies, but I think I improved mine a lot. I did one at the beginning with Pedro (Acosta), and then with Jack (Miller). So, I try to enjoy these moments as well not only just focus. As well as suffering it is important to experience moments of joy."
