The Dutch World Superbike Round saw Toprak Razgatlioglu plagued by tyre issues in Race One and Race Two.
Toprak Razgatlioglu has admitted that he considered retiring from Race Two at the Dutch World Superbike Round due to tyre issues.
Despite winning the wet Superpole Race on Sunday morning, the reigning World Superbike Champion struggled in the dry in Race One and Two.
"The Superpole Race was in full wet conditions and I felt great on the bike,” Razgatlioglu said.
“The grip wasn't bad. This was my first win in the wet conditions on a Superbike so I’m really happy about that.”
From Sunday morning, Razgatlioglu's focus and attention were solely on the 21-lap race in the afternoon. After struggling on Saturday afternoon Razgatlioglu trialled a different setup and harder tyre compounds on Sunday afternoon.
“I was already thinking about Race 2, which looked dry, this morning,” he said.
“We tried a different setup but it still didn’t work. We used a different tyre compared to Race 1 because yesterday the rear tyre dropped for the last eight laps.
“Today we used the harder SC0 tyre but in the last laps I had the same problem.
“At one point I was even thinking about coming into the pit box. But then I focused on scoring points. To finish seventh or eighth doesn’t mean much for me but it’s a long championship. We need to improve the bike, and I hope we can come back stronger to fight for wins."
Luckily for Razgatlioglu, his title rival, Nicolo Bulega, suffered mechanical issues in both races on Sunday. The Italian was leading Race Two and was running in second in the Superpole Race before his bike suddenly stopped due to an electrical issue.
Despite the Turkish rider's struggles at the TT Circuit Assen, he has closed the gap to Bulega in the World Superbike standings. Razgatlioglu is now 21 points behind Bulega, eight points closer than he was before the race weekend.
