Luca Marini secured his best Honda result in his MotoGP return

Gold & Goose

On his return to MotoGP, Luca Marini was back inside the points and claimed his best Grand Prix result with Honda.

After missing the last three Grand Prix weekends due to injuries he sustained at a test in Suzuka, Luca Marini made his return to MotoGP at the German Grand Prix.

Ahead of his return to the Honda HRC Castrol squad, Marini had a test at Brno and had low expectations for the German Grand Prix and wanted to 'get back into the rhythm'.

However, the Italian jumped straight back into the deep end. On Saturday, he finished in 16th place in the Sprint Race, before crossing the line in sixth place at the end of the 30-lap Grand Prix on Sunday.

His sixth-place finish at the Sachsenring marked his best finish as a factory Honda rider, and continued his run of point-scoring run across the 2025 season.

Marini was tested across the Grand Prix as he found himself in a group with Brad Binder, Jack Miller and Raul Fernandez, whom he was able to beat come the chequered flag.

"Really happy with my performance in the race," Marini said.

"A lot of riders crashed when the front tyre dropped, so I was especially careful with this at Turn 1, where everyone was falling.

"I made a really good start and gained a lot before settling into a rhythm and trying to save myself a bit, from lap seven, I had some pain. But this meant I had a lot of tyre left at the end of the race and I could overtake well.

"We’ve done a good job to improve the bike since Friday, we need to keep working on our one-lap speed and the first laps of a race. Now a few days to recover and we are straight back in Brno."

After scoring ten points in Sunday's Grand Prix, Marini moved up to 15th in the MotoGP World Championship and is now one point behind Trackhouse Racing rider Ai Ogura.
