Manuel Gonzalez could make it to MotoGP in 2026, but it all depends on what his Moto2 title rival decides to do.
The Moto2 World Championship leader, Manuel Gonzalez, has one option available to him for 2026, but his future lies in the hands of a Moto2 rival.
In recent weeks, Gonzalez has admitted that he would remain in Moto2 for the 2026 season if no MotoGP teams contacted him. But now it seems that MotoGP interest has arrived for the Spaniard, but there is a catch.
According to Sky Sports Italia, the Spaniard has attracted interest from Honda for their available spot in the LCR Honda garage next season, meaning Gonzalez would replace Somkiat Chantra.
However, Gonzalez would only get the ride in Lucio Cecchinello's squad if Diogo Moreira decides to ride for Prima Pramac Racing Yamaha rather than the satellite Honda squad.
The 23-year-old has already had the opportunity to test a MotoGP bike at the Aragon Test earlier this season with Trackhouse Racing.
But despite leading the Moto2 World Championship and having four race wins to his name, he has struggled to gain attention from the MotoGP Championship.
Gonzalez has also reportedly had interest from the World Superbike Championship, but has turned down offers from both Yamaha and BMW, as he would only accept an offer to move to a new team if it were in MotoGP.
Now the only chance Gonzalez has of getting on the MotoGP next season is if his title rival opts to move to Yamaha rather than Honda.
