'The bike made a strange movement...' - Marco Bezzecchi explains his San Marino Grand Prix mistake

Gold & Goose

Despite losing out on Grand Prix victory on Sunday, Marco Bezzecchi was left satisfied after giving his all at Misano.

At the San Marino Grand Prix, Marco Bezzecchi completed a near-perfect weekend at his home race.

The Italian rider was able to secure pole position on Saturday and followed it up with a victory in the Sprint Race, his first Sprint win since 2023.

However, on Sunday, despite leading the early laps, a mistake cost Bezzecchi the race win, and he crossed the line in second behind Marc Marquez.

"I feel good, I am happy, as you said it was a tough race and I gave my all," Bezzecchi told MotoGP.com after the San Marino Grand Prix.

"I wanted the victory so badly, to be honest. It was a tough race, as Marc [Marquez] also said, because the conditions were a bit unknown. Yesterday night [Saturday night] it was raining, then this morning [Sunday] the track was good but it was patchy.

"I started the race on the medium, and I had been working with the medium, but I did not know what to expect. It was tough.

"I am happy that I gave my all, I really gave my all, to be close to Marc and to be ready to attack. It was not enough, unfortunately, but I really can't complain at all because I gave everything I had."

The moment that Bezzecchi lost the race to Marquez was when he made 'a small mistake' at Turn Eight and ran wide, which let the Spaniard through.

"It was tough under braking," he explained.

"When I tried the medium and the soft rears, the only difference that I found was in braking. The soft tyre had something more, but the difference was a lot less, so I was happy already.

"Then, unfortunately, from lap eight and lap nine, I started to struggle with braking. Marc was close and we were both on the limit, so it was difficult to understand where I could push more.

"At that corner, I made a small mistake, then the bike made a strange movement, and I did not want to lock the front. So, I had to release the front brake a bit, then run a bit wide, and because of this, Marc passed me.

"Then I tried to stay as close to him as I could to be able to bounce back. But it was not possible unfortunately."
