Fermin Aldeguer secured his first Grand Prix victory as a MotoGP rider at the Indonesian Grand Prix.
After 18 race weekends as a MotoGP rider, Fermin Aldeguer took his first victory in the premier class at the Indonesian Grand Prix.
The MotoGP rookie featured on two Grand Prix podiums and three Sprint Race podiums before he claimed his first Grand Prix victory in dominant fashion around the Mandalika International Street Circuit.
"This is a very special moment for me, and for all of my people, for Gresini, and for Ducati," Aldeguer told MotoGP.com.
"I think as a rookie, we are doing incredible work, but we already knew this before coming here. In some races, I have already felt this potential, but we knew we had to improve on Fridays and in Qualifying. Then, after it would be easier to achieve this kind of result.
"This is extra motivation for the next race. I want to enjoy this moment and try to continue improving, to be clear with our goals, and to enjoy."
Aldeguer was able to start the Indonesian Grand Prix from the front row of the grid, alongside Marco Bezzecchi and Raul Fernandez.
However, he had a worrying start to the race as he revealed he failed to unlock his front ride height device when braking for Turn One on the opening lap.
"I started well, but I braked a little bit early at the first corner," he explained.
"I was not able to unlock the front [ride height] device at the first corner, but I was able to unlock it at the second corner, so that was ok. I tried not to make a mistake when overtaking the other riders. I did the overtake on [Luca] Marini, where I tried against [Marco] Bezz on Saturday. Then, after I did the winning overtake where I lost the victory yesterday.
"This shows that I am improving, I understand this class better, but after was more difficult than the overtake. Doing 20 laps in front, without making a mistake, while setting a good pace, was difficult. It was a very long race."
