Jack Miller's positive Australian Grand Prix ended in a disappointing way as he crashed on the third lap of the race.
The Australian Grand Prix is always a special weekend for the sole Australian rider on the MotoGP grid, Jack Miller. However, this weekend had started in a positive way for the home hero.
It had been a difficult Friday for Miller as he failed to automatically qualify for Q2 in the Friday afternoon Practice session at Phillip Island.
However, Saturday was the most positive day for the Australian rider as he made his way through Q1 and was able to qualify on the front row in third place in Q2. He then went on to fight during the Sprint Race and narrowly missed out on a podium as he finished in fourth place.
Hopes were high for the 30-year-old for his home Grand Prix, but on the third lap, what could have been a special day ended in disaster for Miller and the Prima Pramac Racing Team.
The Australian rider crashed at Turn Six on the third lap of the race and walked away from Sunday with no points to his name.
"Not the way I wanted to end what had been a positive weekend so far," Miller said after his home Grand Prix.
"I got a decent start and was in the front group, although I was struggling a bit more than in the previous days, especially in Turns 2 and 6. I felt I had to push a little harder, and after a couple of warnings at Turn 6, with some vibrations going in, the third time the bike just said ’no more‘ and went away from me.
"I‘m disappointed to have let everyone down after what had been a strong weekend where we showed great pace. I‘ll try to take the positives and understand what went wrong today."
