Jake Dixon has 'more confidence' after securing a front start for the Malaysian Grand Prix

Gold & Goose

Jake Dixon will start the Malaysian Grand Prix from the front row and has his sights set on a strong Sunday in Sepang.

It was a positive start to the Malaysian Grand Prix for Jake Dixon on Friday as he ended the afternoon Practice session in second place, and was 0.052 seconds behind Manuel Gonzalez.

The British rider was able to back up his speed on Saturday at the Petronas Sepang International Circuit. He was able to top the timesheets in the morning Free Practice Two session and 'felt amazing' during his race simulation ahead of the Qualifying session.

In the afternoon, Dixon went out for his qualifying run and on his fifth lap of the session was able to produce a lap time that secured him a spot on the front row, as he qualified in third place.

"I’m really proud of myself because I didn’t look for any slipstream in that Q2 session," Dixon said after qualifying on the front row for the Malaysian Grand Prix.

"I did it completely alone in both runs. It’s a big achievement for me to go out there and do that, and it just gives me more confidence for tomorrow that I’m going to be even stronger in the race.

"This morning, I felt amazing when I was doing a longer race simulation. More than anything, I want to get a good result for my Grandad. I’m wearing this special crash helmet this weekend for him. I have full motivation for that, and I can’t wait to get going tomorrow.

"I’m not looking at what other riders are doing and am just focused on getting the best out of myself on Sunday. Let’s see what we can do!"
