Alex Marquez 'did his homework' after losing out in the MotoGP Sprint Race

Gold & Goose

Alex Marquez was able to learn from his Sprint Race mistakes and took victory in the Malaysian Grand Prix.

On Saturday, Alex Marquez crossed the line in second place in the MotoGP Sprint Race and lost out to Francesco Bagnaia in the 10-lap race.

However, he was able to turn things around on Sunday as he took control of the Grand Prix on Sunday, and went on to win the race in dominant fashion.

After the race, he revealed that he had learnt from the Sprint Race that he needed to attack Bagnaia in the early laps.

"I did my homework, yesterday it was my mistake to not attack Pecco [Bagnaia] at the beginning," Marquez told TNT Sports after winning the Malaysian Grand Prix.

"I had a few opportunities, but I did not take them as not everything was 100% clear. Yesterday, I needed to finish and secure my second place in the Championship. But now I am more relaxed, so I was able to try, and I did it.

"The feeling throughout all this weekend changed a lot, compared to February. It looks quite damaged; there have been a lot of stones coming out of the tarmac. It has been difficult.

"But we improved the bike this morning in the Warm-Up. I made a step with my riding style, as yesterday I did not ride in a good way. I was trying to manage everything in the perfect way.

"I was able to keep my lap times, and the race was quite slow compared to past years. But something strange has happened with the tarmac here. So, I was just managing the race, and I am really happy to be here."

'My expectations were too high...'

Alex Marquez's weekend did not start how he wanted it to as he crashed twice on Friday, before he and his BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP squad fixed his setup issues.

"For us, no, it is exactly the same bike as we had here in the Test in February," he explained.

"The setup [from the Test] was not working here this weekend. We were trying that one on Friday, and I crashed two times. Also, I made a mistake as my expectations were too high. I was expecting everything to be too easy.

"The team gave me the bike that I needed today in every way, and I was able to manage the race perfectly."
