2026 MotoGP Spanish Grand Prix Results, Saturday: Sprint

Gold and Goose

Results from the Sprint at the 2026 MotoGP Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez, round four of 2026.

Marc Marquez took a dramatic victory in the Spanish MotoGP Sprint. He led at the start but was caught by Alex Marquez when it started to rain. He then crashed at the final corner and immediately pitted for his spare bike.

That call put him in position to be third of the riders who had changed bikes, but then Brad Binder crashed so he was second in-line behind Francesco Bagnaia.

Alex Marquez then crashed on the next lap and the rest pitted, with the exception of Fermin Aldeguer, who was very slow on slicks and was caught quickly by Marquez and Bagnaia.

After passing Aldeguer, Marquez passed Bagnaia and cruised to a three-second win, although the result sheet did not tell even half the story of his journey to that victory.

Franco Morbidelli took third place having followed Bagnaia into the pits.

Brad Binder remounted after his crash and finished fourth, passing Fabio Di Giannantonio on the final lap. The VR46 Ducati rider took fifth.

Raul Fernandez was fourth before the rain arrived but ended up sixth after it all shook out.

Fabio Quartararo took three points for seventh and was one of two riders in the top-10, Alex Rins in 10th being the other.

Johann Zarco was eighth after starting second, and Luca Marini took the final point in ninth.

Jorge Martin experienced some kind of brake issue as he ran wide at turn one on the second lap and retired soon after, so he never had the chance to try to take advantage of the rain.

Marco Bezzecchi started on a tear-off so span the rear tyre off the line and dropped to 17th. He didn't make much progress before the rain arrived, then crashed after changing to wets and didn't finish.

Aldeguer, the last rider to change bikes, finished last of the 17 finishers.

Qualifying

Marc Marquez took his first pole position of 2026 in Jerez, just beating Johann Zarco who had come through Q1 and had good confidence and speed in what were damp conditions.

Fabio Di Giannantonio was third, using Marco Bezzecchi as a marker to beat the championship leader by 0.018 seconds in Q2. Bezzecchi will start fourth alongside Alex Marquez and Pedro Acosta on the second row, Marquez having crashed at turn nine on his first run before recovering to fifth.

Jorge Martin was another crasher and qualified seventh. He has a three-place grid penalty for riding slowly on the racing line in Practice yesterday, so will start seventh in the Sprint but 10th in the grand prix.

Enea Bastianini and Raul Fernandez will complete the third row this afternoon, but Francesco Bagnaia will move to ninth place on Sunday's grid after qualifying 10th thanks to Martin's penalty.

Ai Ogura and Fermin Aldeguer were the two slowest riders in Q2, Aldeguer qualifying slowest of the 12 after a crash at turn eight only a few minutes before his teammate, Marquez, crashed at turn nine.
