John McGuinness’ BSB Superstock crash was his first in “about six years”

Honda Racing UK

When John McGuinness crashed out of the second Superstock race at the Oulton Park BSB it was his first in around six years, he says.

McGuinness is better known for his road racing exploits, of course, but in the past few years his programme has also included the National Superstock Championship in BSB with the Honda Racing UK team.

The 54-year-old has been able to score points and record personal best lap times when he’s shown up to places like Brands Hatch in recent years, but he ended a streak he’d have perhaps rather have kept going at Oulton Park when he crashed out of the second race at Knickerbrook on Sunday.

“That’s the first time I’ve crashed a bike for about six years,” said McGuinness.

“As disappointing as it is, the weekend and the race were going well up until that point.

“I’d put my fastest ever lap at Oulton Park together and was enjoying my racing.

“Green sectors prior to the crash showed that I was running at a good pace.

“I’m okay and the bike is okay, we’ll dust ourselves down and go again.

“I’m grateful to Honda Racing UK for putting the bike under me and to my crew for running it so well all weekend.”

Superstock race two was won by Scott Swann on his new SMR Performance-supported BMW M1000 RR. The Northern Irishman was competing for the first time aboard his new machinery at the Cheshire track, beating David Allingham who had dominated the first five rounds of the season with five wins from the first seven races.

Allingham remains in the lead of the Superstock championship ahead of the Thruxton round, with a 49-point advantage over Luke Mossey.
