MotoGP Catalunya: Stoner 'sees no sense in intermediates'

Repsol Honda's Casey Stoner ripped up a wet tyre in one lap today on a drying Barcelona circuit but says there is no need to an intermediate to be introduced as all it takes is tyre management to be safe.

The 2007 world champion says that even though there were problems experienced at Jerez earlier in the year, and the same track conditions were experienced this afternoon, an inter on a drying track is nearly as bad if rains again.

"Jerez was something strange. We have run with Bridgestones in those conditions before and done a lot of laps in the dry and the tyres survived. To be honest evenb today, with the track quite dry, I destroyed the tyres in one lap," said Stoner.

"If I'd done a few more laps they might have become slicks and got more grip but I saw no reason to wreck another set. If it's 50/50 conditions, there will some gambles whether to come in and change.

"If the track dries out enough then we can use slicks or wets if it rains again, it's just tyre management. People can say all they want it's dangerous but the Jerez situation it was wet enough to keep wets on then rained again. Intermediates were not going to be better in that situation. I've never really run inters and I don't see any sense in it."
