Donington Park could lose its status as the British round of the MotoGP calendar because its facilities are not up to scratch - and Silverstone is waiting in the wings to take over.
Dorna boss Carmelo Ezpeleta has confirmed at Jerez that the company is in talks with the Northamptonshire circuit and technical bosses have already carried out a track inspection.
"We are talking with Silverstone, but we have not taken any decision," Ezpeleta revealed. "Our contract with Donington goes to 2009. Donington has been our partner for many years and has priority.

"But at the end of this year or the beginning of next year we will talk about the possibility of staying at Donington or going somewhere else."
Donington’s contract runs out at the end of 2009 and without a serious facilites upgrade, including a new pitlane area and alterations to the paddock size, it could lose its homologation.
A Donington spokesman said this morning: "We have advised Dorna that we wish to extend our MotoGP contract beyond 2009."
Silverstone has lready revealed plans for a major upgrade in the near future which includes up to six million square feet of new development over the next 10 years.

The plan includes a business park, a manufacturer test centre, an extreme sport and leisure complex, two hotels with trackside suites, a university campus and a welcome centre incorporating a museum, and an arena for exhibitions and open air events. The plans also include major upgrades to Silverstone’s pit and paddock facilities and new grandstands, which are part of the conditions that must be met if a new contract is to be signed for F1.
