Donington Park will host the British Formula One GP from 2010, it emerged today. A deal with F1 ringmaster Bernie Ecclestone has been done and the official announcement will be published early this week. It also means that Donington should keep its MotoGP race past 2009.
Rumours of the deal have been circulating for weeks and although officials at the track are remaining tight-lipped, BSN.com has it on good authority F1 circus will roll a bit further up the M1 in two years' time.
It means the Leicestershire track will undergo a multi-million pound revamp and looks likely to keep hold of its MotoGP contract past 2009. It was thought that Silverstone would take over hosting MotoGP when Donington's deal with Dorna ran out. However, Silverstone's owners the BRDC won't be looking to made the necessary upgrades if there is no F1 at the track.
F1 last rolled round Donington in 1993 when Ayrton Senna lapped the field to win in a race that was wet beyond the meaning of the word.
