Alastair Seeley won a Superbike race complemented by a win in the Masters at Mondello Park over the mixed weather weekend on the JMF Millsport Yamaha.
The Carrickfergus rider has now won two out of three of the Masters rounds within the Irish Superbike Championship, whilst deservedly benefiting from the financial rewards which will support the remainder of his 2008 season. He aims to do the hat trick in the series continuing his success at the final round at the beginning of October.
Seeley said: “The master race was like a BSB round, the front row consisted of Cameron Donald in first, Marshall Neill second, me and Adrian Coates in fourth. The second and third row were basically Irish riders.”
“Cameron got the lead, I was second on the first lap and Neill was third, but he got by me by the end of the first lap. Once I got to the front, I had pressure off Neill in the first part of the race , then in the second half I managed to pull away and win by 4.3 seconds. Come the third round it's going to be all guns blazing.”
On a new bike this weekend Seeley aimed to gain as much practice as possible prior to the race, which included him entering one of the Superbike races. In the eight lap race he ran away with the win from the off to cross the finish line an astonishing seven seconds ahead.
He said: “I had the opportunity to do two Superbike races, but I only did the first to get a bit of a feel in the dry and a setup. JMF Millsport have built me a Superbike and it was the first time on the bike so Saturday was a test day. It gave me chance to dial in and get a setup for it, then on Sunday it was just a case of a few minor tweeks. Credit to the guys for what they did and giving me this opportunity.”
Seeley will be back on track in two weeks time at the Cheshire circuit of Oulton Park for the next round of the British Superbikes. He said: “I am looking forward to Oulton which is a double round. Things are looking good and hopefully I will be able to keep chipping away at Brogan, Kirkham and Neill.”
Riding the number 34 Team Rea Estates Racing Yamaha, Seeley is looking to grab a handful of points to improve on his current fourth place in the Metzeler National Superstock 1000 Championship.
