Despite an illness at the Cadwell Park BSB, Kyle Ryde stretched his points lead out to 71 points at round eight.

Ryde was third in both Sunday races at Cadwell Park and second in Race 1, making this the first round he hasn’t won at in 2026 as he battled illness and resultant fatigue all weekend.

But despite that it was perhaps the most important for him in his quest for a third straight BSB title, as Scott Redding did no better than sixth and was only 15th in Race 3.

It means that, entering the Showdown portion of the season, Ryde has a 71-point lead over Redding, the equivalent of two race wins at the finale at Brands Hatch.

“Glad it’s over,” Ryde told TNT Sports after Race 3, referring to the illness he’d been dealing with.

“To be honest, that was the best I’ve felt and it was the best the bike was. Unfortunately, obviously, all my energy and muscles have been drained by the weekend. 

“Did a good job there, hung in; when Brad [Ray]] came past it was definitely too fast, the pace. But, not so much that [illness], Brad was obviously just a bit faster. 

“I did my own pace and I actually clawed them [leaders] back towards the end a little bit, which was nice. 

“Shoutout to all my team, they gave me a good bike for that last race, a bit less physical which was definitely what I needed, and lastly well done to Joe because that was an amazing race.”
