Factory Yamaha's Ben Spies is playing around with new riding positions to try and get more comfortable and used today's MotoGP free practice sessions at Misano to eliminate the more extreme options.
The Texan suffered at Indy when a tank spacer came unglued so his team set both bikes up with different adjustments to narrow the field of work. He has been trying different settings right form the word go as he is a taller rider and it now getting to the nitty gritty.
"It was a bit of a test session for us. We've been working since Brno on rider positioning for me, handlebars, footpegs, tank spacer, little stuff and just trying to find a right balance. At Indy we tried something quite a bit different and it felt good so we raced all weekend on it," said the Texan, speaking to bikesportnews.com
"Here we started with the basic Indy setting with a little bit of different suspension stuff. This afternoon we tried something pretty drastic with some controls on the bike and it wasn't a change I liked and we ended up wasting a lot of time because it took a long time to change the bike back.
"I went to my back-up bike to ride and that had a completely different setting to try and it wasn't as good. There was about 28 minutes of the session that was wasted. Not wasted for learning, cos we learned a lot but track time."
